This FREE two-week, hands-on summer camp for Sound Design & Experimental 3D Animation with Blender introduces high school students (ages 15-18) to character-driven experimental animation using Blender, a free, professional-grade 3D creation tool used in animation, games, and digital media. Once students have a better understanding of 3D animation, they will explore how to create and layer sound onto their own work.

Rather than focusing on technical complexity or realism, this workshop emphasizes expressive movement, playful experimentation, and storytelling through motion. Students will learn foundational 3D concepts by creating short animated character studies that explore emotion, timing, and personality.

During the second week, participants will dive deeper into sound design, demonstrating creative audio techniques to transform sound into story. They will cover technical basics, creative workflow, sonic processing, audio synthesis, storytelling with sound, and recording techniques. Every sound will be crafted using a microphone or stock plug-ins found in most DAWs during recording, sourcing, arranging, layering, and programming.

No prior experience with Blender or 3D software is required.

IMPORTANT:

  • Students should remain for the entire program and be prepared to present their creations at the final showcase.
  • For students under 18, parents must fill out the form in order to register students for the workshop.
